System 1224

WHAT I LEARNED

Design principles from any era can inspire new approaches to modern challenges, creating innovative solutions grounded in proven norms.

THOUGHTS BEHIND SYSTEM 1224

System 1224 looks to International Style, and its predecessor, Modernism, for inspiration. It is free of extraneous ornamentation, allowing the pure expression of its functionality to serve as a synonym for its beauty, like Philip Johnson’s Glass House or Mies Van Der Rohe’s Seagram Building. Like its stylistic muse, System 1224 is versatile in application, finding a home in projects of all typologies, echoing the adoption of International Style in urban contexts around the globe.

SYSTEM 1224 IN APPLICATION

Color, finish, and graphic panel options can transform System 1224 into bespoke solutions.

Designers can combine matte white steel and white oak panels to make an environment lab-like yet not antiseptic, perfect for a the Murad brand. Or perforated steel, like Everlane’s stores, support their own company’s motto for transparency.

Magnetic graphics provide display for brand marketing messaging, as seen at Shiseido HQ in New York. B+N’s graphic Infused Veneer evoke a appropriate clubby, spa-like mood at Planet 13 in Las Vegas.

Even custom wood lightboxes and cabinets all suspend and are powered from System 1224, create a sculptural aesthetic that is both unique and locally crafted, such as at Aesop’s stores.

DESIGN WITHIN REACH

DWR’s brick-and-mortar studios are intended to exemplify the exacting standards and ineffable aesthetic qualities that define mid-century modern design. System 1224 mirrors this ethos.
