IN SITU: RENDERING POSSIBILITIES

Creative Director at B+N

WHAT I LEARNED

Embracing and mastering emerging technologies like AI and 3D rendering empower designers to enhance their creativity and versatility in visual presentation and storytelling.

I was asked to create and render (yes using my trusty Mac) a series of possible installations  for a presentation to MillerKnoll. The result was a “coffee table book” of almost 200 inspirations in the retail, residential, healthcare, office, and hospitality market verticals, each scenario highlighting the versatility and elevated design language of systems I have developed for B+N industries.

The presentation went great, and we are still in conversations of how to best combine efforts to develop B+N systems further for MillerKnoll, as well as create new ones for their markets.

System 1224 constructs the large feature library and display wall, while a more restrained configuration creates the dining credenza. The Matte Black finish is offset with white marble cabinet tops, and is tuned up a key with illuminated cabinets and shelves. It makes simple and elegant backdrop for artwork, special objects, or high-design lamps.

Above, System 1224 Panels are available in a wide variety of finishes, including our popular Infused Veneer. This process penetrates the wood surface with imagery, and allows the warmth of the grain to come through. Extremely durable and UV-stable, Infused Veneer can enhance a space that will be appreciated for years to come.

Left, Wall-Mounted Matte Black System 1224 is balanced across the room in with a floor-to-ceiling version of the same, creating a semi-private space isolated from the rest of the activity in the home. Focus on printed matter comes from illuminated shelves and articulated task lights. The minimal look is completed with Eames furniture: all in black..

After seeing these renderings, we were asked to meet with MillerKnoll to give a presentation and talk about developing product together.

A lobby in a Palm Springs hotel, features a fireplace, benches, and lounge furniture, all in front of a tall System 1224 wall in warm walnut.

In the towering atrium in a boutique hotel in Spain, a giant Picasso sketch in magnetic graphics on the tall 1224 wall.

A sumptuous yet simple kitchen-as-laboratory uses System 1224 to keep all cooking tools and dish ware at arm’s reach, and features blackboard panels as a backsplash.

A hotel suite is realized with a restricted palette of white oak and muted fabric panels, echoing the hues of sky and tundra in Scandinavia.

System 1224’s Perforated Matte Black Metal Panels, exposing the utilitarian yet elegant 1224 Uprights, is the perfect background for shelving, signage, space definition and product display in this corporate dining space. Beach wood stools, chairs, and tables add warmth to the concrete interior.
